Maintenance
How do I clean the contraflow channels?
For models with contraflow channels (EC645, EC678, EC730, E850), we recommend cleaning twice per heating season. Simply remove the access plugs and use the brush provided with your stove to clear any ash deposits from the channels. This ensures optimal heat transfer and airflow. Full instructions are provided in your owner's manual and our video tutorials. For the EC580 with its triple baffle system, maintenance is even simpler.
How do I heat the contraflow channels from cold?
When starting from cold (such as at the beginning of the heating season), place firelighters in the bottom plugs to warm the channels before lighting your main fire. This creates the "pull" through the contraflow system. You'll know the channels are working when you can feel the draught pulling through. This step isn't needed once the stove is in regular use.
How often does the Ecco Stove need to be cleaned?
Simply dust off with a dry cloth as needed. For painted models, we supply a tin of paint to touch up as required. For natural finish models, we suggest lightly sanding with fine sandpaper to remove any marks. We also offer an annual health check service for complete peace of mind.
How do I light my Ecco Stove correctly?
We recommend the top-down lighting method for cleanest, most efficient combustion. Place larger logs at the bottom, smaller kindling and firelighters on top, and light from the top. This creates a clean burn from the start and brings the combustion chamber up to optimal temperature (900-1000°C) quickly. Once at temperature, close the ash pit door and let the silicon carbide body absorb the heat – this is the "flash fire" method.
How do I replace the rope seals on the plugs?
The rope seals on access plugs may need replacing occasionally to maintain an airtight seal. Replacement rope and adhesive are available from us directly. Simply remove the old rope, clean the channel, apply adhesive, and press the new rope into place. Full instructions are available in our maintenance guide. Visit our Care & Maintenance page for detailed guidance.
What warranty comes with the Ecco Stove?
